I was drawn to this field because of my passion for helping individuals and families navigate emotional and relational challenges. Witnessing the transformative power of therapy in my own life and others inspired me to pursue this path. As an LMFT Intern, I aim to provide compassionate, client-centered care while honing my skills under supervision. I believe in the importance of fostering healthy relationships and empowering clients to achieve their goals, which aligns with the core values of marriage and family therapy.

Building rapport begins with creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and respected. I actively listen, validate their experiences, and demonstrate empathy to establish trust. I also tailor my approach to each client’s unique needs, using open-ended questions and reflective statements to encourage dialogue. By being transparent about the therapeutic process and setting collaborative goals, I aim to foster a strong therapeutic alliance from the outset.

When faced with ethical dilemmas, I prioritize client welfare and adhere to professional guidelines. I consult with my supervisor and refer to the AAMFT Code of Ethics to ensure my actions align with best practices. I also maintain clear boundaries, confidentiality, and transparency with clients. By reflecting on the situation and seeking guidance, I strive to make informed decisions that uphold ethical standards while supporting the client’s best interests.

I have worked with clients from various cultural, socioeconomic, and LGBTQ+ backgrounds, which has deepened my understanding of intersectionality in therapy. I approach each client with cultural humility, recognizing the impact of their unique experiences on their mental health. I actively educate myself on cultural competencies and adapt my interventions to respect and honor their identities. This inclusive approach helps me build trust and provide effective, culturally sensitive care.

Self-care is essential to maintaining my well-being and effectiveness as a therapist. I prioritize regular exercise, mindfulness practices, and hobbies that bring me joy. I also set boundaries to ensure a healthy work-life balance and seek supervision or peer support when needed. By taking care of myself, I can show up fully for my clients and sustain my passion for this meaningful work.
