I have extensive experience working in a GI lab, having spent the past three years as a GI Lab RN. During this time, I have performed various endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies and upper endoscopies, under the supervision of gastroenterologists. I am well-versed in patient preparation, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring the sterility of equipment. My experience has also equipped me with strong communication skills to explain procedures to patients and address their concerns effectively.

In the event of an emergency during a procedure, I remain calm and follow established protocols. I would immediately notify the physician, assess the patient's condition, and assist in administering necessary interventions. My training includes CPR and advanced life support, which I can apply if needed. I also ensure that the rest of the team is informed and prepared to assist in managing the situation.

Patient education is a critical part of my role. Before any GI procedure, I take the time to explain the process, potential risks, and what the patient can expect during and after the procedure. I use clear, simple language and answer any questions they may have to alleviate their anxiety. I also provide detailed instructions for pre- and post-procedure care to ensure their safety and comfort.

Ensuring sterility is a top priority in the GI lab. I follow strict aseptic techniques, including proper hand hygiene, wearing sterile gloves, and using sterile instruments. I also verify that all equipment is properly sterilized before use and maintain a clean workspace throughout the procedure. Regular checks and maintenance of sterilization equipment are part of my routine to prevent contamination.

One common challenge in a GI lab is managing anxious patients. I have found that taking extra time to build rapport and explain the procedure in detail helps reduce their anxiety. Another challenge is maintaining efficiency during busy days, which I overcome by staying organized, prioritizing tasks, and collaborating effectively with the team to ensure smooth operations.
