A Nurse Circulator is responsible for coordinating and managing the nursing care of patients during surgical procedures. This includes ensuring the operating room is prepared with the necessary equipment and supplies, verifying patient information, and maintaining a sterile environment. They also act as a patient advocate, monitor the patient’s condition, and communicate with the surgical team to ensure safety and efficiency throughout the procedure.

In emergencies, I remain calm and focused, relying on my training and experience to prioritize patient safety. I quickly assess the situation, communicate clearly with the surgical team, and follow established protocols. Whether it’s a sudden change in the patient’s condition or an equipment malfunction, I ensure that all necessary actions are taken promptly while maintaining a sterile field and documenting the incident accurately.

Effective communication is critical in the operating room. I use clear, concise language and confirm understanding with team members. I actively participate in pre-operative briefings and time-outs to ensure everyone is aligned. During surgery, I provide updates on the patient’s status and anticipate the needs of the surgeon and anesthesiologist. Maintaining sterility is a top priority. I adhere to strict protocols, including proper hand hygiene, wearing sterile attire, and ensuring all instruments and supplies are sterilized. I monitor the surgical field for breaches in sterility and address them immediately. I also educate and remind team members about sterile techniques to prevent contamination and reduce the risk of infections.
